Bangkok experiences a tropical monsoon climate defined by consistent heat and distinct wet and dry periods. WeatherBox data shows that average daily high temperatures peak at 35.2°C (95.4°F) in April, creating sweltering afternoons before the rains arrive. Even during January, the coolest month of the year, overnight lows average 22.4°C (72.3°F), ensuring sultry conditions prevail regardless of the season. Extreme heat events are frequent, though temperatures rarely exceed 37.3°C (99.1°F), and cold snaps are virtually non-existent, as readings rarely fall below 18.8°C (65.8°F).
The city undergoes a dramatic shift between monsoonal rains and arid skies. The wet season brings torrential downpours, specifically in September, which sees an average rainfall of 254 mm (10 in). Conversely, December offers dry conditions with only 13 mm (1 in) of precipitation. Over the course of a year, the area accumulates 1,237 mm (49 in) of rain. Cloud cover follows this pattern closely, with skies classified as scattered to overcast 98.5 of the time during the peak rainy month of August.
Beyond the heat and rain, oppressive humidity plays a major role in the local atmosphere. Relative humidity peaks at 80.0 in October, significantly increasing the perceived heat. Solar intensity is also substantial; in March, the average peak UV Index is 10.0.
