Annual Climate Summary

Las Vegas is defined by a subtropical hot desert climate characterized by blistering heat and abundant sunshine. WeatherBox data shows that temperatures fluctuate significantly throughout the year, with a mean variance of 24.6°C (44.3°F). The heat is most oppressive during the height of summer, where the average daily high climbs to 37.2°C (99.0°F), and extreme peaks rarely exceed 40.7°C (105.3°F). While the city is famous for this intense heat, the aridity helps mitigate the thermal load, distinguishing it from humid tropical climates.

The transition between seasons brings distinct thermal shifts. Summer is unrelenting, with a seasonal average temperature of 29.9°C (85.8°F). During this period, the air is extremely dry, with relative humidity plummeting to an average of 15.4. In contrast, winter provides relief from the searing sun. The average daily temperature in winter sits at 8.4°C (47.1°F), while daily lows in the coldest month average 2.2°C (36.0°F). Although generally temperate, the thermometer rarely falls below -2.0°C (28.4°F), meaning deep freezes are uncommon.

Rainfall is scarce in this desert environment, with an annual total of just 155 mm (6 in). Precipitation is most likely during the wetter months of January through March, averaging 21 mm (1 in), while the driest period sees rainfall averages drop to 6 mm (0 in). Sunshine is consistent, peaking at 367.8 hours in the sunniest month. However, this atmospheric clarity results in high exposure levels; the average peak UV Index is 10.7, requiring caution. Winds generally blow from the NW, though speeds are usually moderate. Explore our advanced weather charts on WeatherBox to visualize these climate patterns in detail.
